--Doctor Cosmo's "Nocturnal Transmissions" program--
Wow, finally we're LIVE on the radio! Thanks, Doctor Cosmo!
Could we fill up a few hours of airtime with the "usual" BS sound?
Check out mp3s from the show here.
Here are a few of the digital pix that Wayne took for us:
Here's Ken jamming on the newly-improved keyboard layout... setup time has been cut in half!
We were scheduled to go on the radio at 10pm, and we were ready a full half-hour early... plenty of time for a soundcheck and last-minute set list discussion.
Result of last-minute set list discussion: throw out the set list and go for two completely improvised sets!
Rob happily plays as loud as he wants in the soundproof WPRB studio. However, for the first time ever, Rob asks Ken to turn down his keyboards, while Ken asks Rob to turn up his guitar! A sure sign that this was to be an unusual evening.
Note the custom effects stand to the left. Slick!
Ken was really amazed that he and Rob played for over an hour non-stop...twice!
Equally amazing was the weird posterized visual effects that seemed to fill the room...
It was strange to be playing in front of nobody, while also being acutely aware that this live jam was broadcasting out to any radio listener within WPRB's 50,000-watt radius.
Between sets, Doctor Cosmo relayed a few stories
about incredulous listeners calling up to ask what cd was playing.
"No cd, sir. Just two guys playing live."
"Whaaaa..?"
The digitally-sampled backing loops helped segue between songs,
thanks to the trusty Yamaha SU200, seen in the center of this picture,
mounted on its custom "piece-of-pipe-screwed-into-plywood-painted-black" stand.
The whole show was captured on DAT, so we'll be releasing a 2-cd set of this performance in the near future. Stay tuned!
